How do I make my own dietary supplement?
Q. How do I make my own dietary supplement? Also, whats a good "reputable" dietary supplement manufacturer?

A. a couple years ago somebody tested the bioavailability of various supplements, and to everybody's suprise, Schiff came out first overall. That is who I buy mine from. They have gel caplets for some minerals that are otherwise sort of like... corn. some people digest most of the corn, other people just pass it through unchanged. As for making your own dietary supplements: SOUP! Soup retains most of the vitamins in the water, and if you do it in a pressure cooker even more of them are made available to you, because some vitamins are locked up very well in the fiberous cells of plants. Tomatos, for instance, are a lot better for yu cooked than raw. Pork soups are very high in B vitamins, especially thiamine. Veggie soups pretty much… [cont.]

Would it hurt to take more than one dietary supplement?
Q. I am taking some Acai dietary supplements with Hoodia. But I want to drink my dietary supplement tea as well. Does it hurt to take more than one? Especially if they are all natural? And yes, I am eating healthy and exercising. I just don't want to hurt myself if its not good to do that. Thanks!

A. Most vitamin supplements are not like pharmaceuticals which a synthesized and modified versions of naturally occurring chemicals at a higher concentrate. In that respect the effective dose of vitamins is actually very high. There are very few that will react badly with each other. One might be Ginko Biloba in high doses while on pharmaceutical blood thinners and aspirin. Or 5HTP while on pharmaceutical anti-depressants but aside from a few rare cases they are relatively harmless even in massive doses. With regards to diet supplements you can generally dose up until you find its effect or you are uncomfortably jittery then cut or spread out your dose to an acceptable medium. If you take with a meal the dose would be larger than one taken… [cont.]

how often must dietary supplements be tested according to the new dietary supplement rules?
Q. I need to know the stability testing rules for dietary supplements and the FDA guidelines are impossible to understand. Anyone have a straight answer?
Asked by Dawn - Mon Oct 5 08:32:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Drugs have to be fully tested. However, a supplement is not a drug. things like weight loss pills, protein powders, cod liver oils etc only have to be tested for hygiene to make sure they are safe. they dont have to be tested to see if they actually work.

Has anyone else had serious restless leg problems while taking a dietary supplement with Black Cohosh in it?
Q. (I started taking a dietary supplement containing 40mg of Black Cohost extract to help with my hot flashes) . . . however, I have been experiencing serious restless leg symptoms ever since I started taking it a couple weeks ago. I have even tried taking it at different times, but the results is always the same. I can take a capsule in the morning, suffer restless leg symptoms most of the night, and still have lingering restless leg symptoms most of the next day.

A. It may just be a coincidence to have the restless legs symptoms at the time you started taking the Black Cohosh as I haven't heard of this being a side effect of the herb. I would continue taking the Black Cohosh for now and try something to help with the restless legs. I have heard that Coral Calcium is really good or alternatively try a magnesium/calcium combination tablet from any health store, such as dolomite or a proprietary formula/blend that is more easily absorbed such as a citrate blend. This should be in a ratio of 2:1 calcium:magnesium, such as 500mg calcium and 250mg magnesium. It is the magnesium in particular that helps with any muscular tension and spasms, but it is always best taken in combination with calcium. Take one… [cont.]

A. There are no magic pills, potions or miracle wraps. You lose weight by diet, exercise or disease. Just make a lifestyle change. Nothing beats healthy eating. Concentrate on overall fitness and maintaining a healthy heart. For best results, eat six times a day. Try balancing your meals 70% protein 30% carbs. Eat a combination of lean protein and healthy carbohydrates every few hours throughout the day to speed up fat loss and maintain stable energy levels. Eat your proteins from lean sources (Chicken, fish, boiled eggs, lean beef with all the fat drained off) and beans (lentil, lima, chile or any type of bean) For your carbs stay away from breads and rice. They do provide energy but they are high in calories. Choose leafy vegetables,… [cont.]

Q. I exercise 4-5 days a week and eat right but I'm stuck at 29 pounds, my goal is to lose 50. I can't get over this. If I take a dietary supplement for a week or 2 will this help?

A. Try not to stress over it. Keep up your good work (congratulations on your weight loss by the way) and your body will kick in again. Don't wreck your metabolism by taking diet supplements. In the meantime, focus on the non-scale victories that you must be experiencing such as smaller clothes, clearer skin, shinier hair, more stamina, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, etc.

Is there any oral or dietary supplement to vitamin B12 ?
Q. Hi, I am mailing you from Bangalore -India I am 50 years old, just out of hospital after being treated for Megaloblastic Aneamia. I am greatly dependant on injections of B12. I want to avoid the inconvenience of injections, Can anyone enlighten me about any B12 supplements in tablet or tonic form; Or is there any dietary supplement that can help me do away with injections ? Thanks Y.Prasad Bangalore
Asked by vast - Wed Oct 17 06:43:51 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sorry if you have a vitamin B12 deficiency it means your body will not absorb it naturally which means the only way to get it into your system is by injection. I looked into it as I had all the tests done myself. It does occur in foods and vitamin tablets but your body will not absorb it. Sorry to say you will have to keep having the injections.

A. Dietary supplement does not mean it's a diet pill! It's used to supplement your diet... Supplement (to provide) minerals, in our case, that are not consumed in sufficient quantity in a person's diet.

Can Internal Flush dietary supplement clean out THC from body? If so, how long does it take to get all out?
Q. I have a drug test coming up and i have these dietary supplements capsules called Internal Flush and it says they detox body so does that mean it also cleans out THC? If it does how long does it usually take. It says to take 3 to 6 capsules before bed time.
Asked by Brandon C - Wed Jan 28 17:37:34 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This product is intended to cleanse the gastrointestinal tract. THC is stored in fat cells, not in the gastrointestinal tract. I have been watching students be drug-tested for many years. There is no single method that is guaranteed to help someone pass a urine-drug-screen if the person has been smoking marijuana. I have seen students drink cranberry juice, lemon juice, vinegar, and huge amounts of water and still fail. I have seen students do nothing and pass (when they shouldn't have). There are simply too many factors involved for one method to work for everyone. I realize this isn't the Answer you wanted, but it's an honest one, and it's one based on 20+ years of observation.

A. It is imperative that there is a balance of Omega 6 and Omega 3's in the diet. Omega 6 is plentiful but without fish, flax seeds or chia seeds in the diet there is no balance. Fish oil has many health promoting benefits for the brain, mood, immune and hormone functions.

A. Based on my own misfortune, I am on a mission to warn people about acai SCAMS online. One scam is Acai Berry Supreme. They promised me a free bottle and I would only have to pay shipping. I noticed an additional $29.95 added to my credit card from that company and had to complain to the company to get a refund. Then they started shipping me more bottles and trying to charge me for them. Another scam is Acai Berry Power 500, which also offered a free trial bottle. They then started mailing me additional bottles of acai without my permission. Again, I had to complain to the company to get credit card charges removed. Also beware of people trying to sell you acai products on YA. Be cautious about people warning you of scams and then… [cont.]
